John Barno
John Barno, 88, of Uniontown, Pa., formerly of Richeyville, Pa., died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born June 20, 1914, in Vestaburg, Pa., a son of the late George and Pauline Plisko Barno.
Mr. Barno was a 1932 graduate of East Bethlehem High School, and had been employed by Jones & Laughlin Steel, Vesta No. 5 Coal Mine for 48 years, before retiring as a Lampman in 1982.
He was founder and leader of Johnny J’s Orchestra and played throughout the Mon Valley for several years.
Mr. Barno was a member of U.M.W.A. Local No. 762, and was a former member of the St. Oliver Plunkett Parish and St. Michael R.C. Church of Fredericktown.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia M. Reynolds of Richeyville, Pa., and Victoria P. Maldovan and her husband, Edward L. of Uniontown, Pa.; two sisters, Helen Zaleski of Fairview Park, Ohio, and Ann Barno of Cleveland, Ohio; two granddaughters, Victoria L. Maldovan of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Valerie M. Maldovan of Uniontown, Pa.; and a grandson, Edward J. Maldovan and his wife, Susan of Smock, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria C. (Katruska) Barno, who passed away on May 5, 1974; and three sisters, Mary Washeruk, Margaret Obtiloff and Pauline Barno.
Friends will be received today from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, Route 40, Beallsville, and on Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of services, with the Rev. Francis A. Nazimek officiating. Interment will be in Beallsville Cemetery.
