1 min read

Sen. J. Barry Stout, D-Bentleyville, was reappointed this week as caucus administrator for the state Senate Democrats. Stout was first elected to Pennsylvania’s General Assembly in 1970 as a House member representing Washington County. He served three terms then won a special election in 1977 to fill a vacated seat in the 46th Senatorial District. Voters re-elected him to the Senate for six consecutive four-year terms, the most recent on November 5.

As caucus administrator, Stout will continue to be responsible for the administrative end of day-to-day operations of Senate Democrats. He was appointed to the position by newly re-elected Minority Leader Robert J. Mellow of Lackawanna County and Minority Whip Michael A. O’Pake of Berks County.

Stout, a life-long resident of Washington County, was born in East Finley Township and graduated from Bentleyville High School, the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and received a B.A. in Economics from Washington and Jefferson University.

He is married to the former Lenore Thompson. The couple have six children and eight grandchildren.

Stout represents the 46th Senatorial District, which covers Greene County, most of Washington and portions of Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.
