Elmer W. Cunningham
Elmer Woodrow Cunningham Sr., 79, of Fairchance, Pa., died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, in Canonsburg Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1922, in Fairchance, Pa., son of the late Abraham Cunningham and Nancy Ellsworth Cunningham.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary Belle Campbell Cunningham, granddaughter, sister and brothers.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
Elmer always loved his family, joking around and walking with his loving little dog Pookie in his hometown of Fairchance.
Surviving are his children, Barbara Shaffer of Smithfield, Pa., Woodrow “Woody” Cunningham of Collier, Pa., Jane “Janie Girl” Wolfe of Fairchance, Pa., Dianna “Lynn” Palmer of Fairchance, Pa., and James “Jimmy” Cunningham of Republic, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Newcomer of Fairchance; and a brother, Wallace Cunningham of Uniontown, Pa.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Clara Yarborough officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Veteran’s Section, Fairchance, Pa. Military rites will be accorded by Amvets Post 103 of Hopwood.
