Adah man charged in assault
REDSTONE TWP. – An Adah man is accused of running over a Republic man early Saturday morning and then beating him with a baseball bat. State police said Keith Brian Lewis, 32, was charged Sunday with criminal attempt/criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person after the incident, which occurred between 12 and 2 a.m. Saturday along Route 166 near Hibbs-New Salem Road.
According to police, Lewis drove his vehicle into Paul E. Hall, 38, of Republic as Hall was walking along the roadway. After he had struck Hall, police said Lewis got out of his vehicle and beat Hall in the face and head with a wooden baseball bat.
As Lewis attempted to leave the scene, his vehicle became stuck in a snow embankment, and as he maneuvered to get his vehicle out of the snow, Hall got up and slashed Lewis in the face with a small knife that he had been carrying. Lewis was then able to get his vehicle out of the snow, police said, and he fled northbound on Route 166.
Lewis was treated at Uniontown Hospital for lacerations to his nose and cheek, while Hall was treated at Brownsville General Hospital for injuries to his left leg, mouth and head, police said.
Before Lewis was released from the hospital, police served him an outstanding warrant for burglary and he was arraigned on the charge at the office of District Justice Rick Vernon. Lewis was then lodged in the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond.
The other charges against Lewis were filed at Vernon’s office, police said, and a warrant was issued for him on those charges.
