MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – Miami’s Ken Dorsey and Willis McGahee were named the Big East offensive co-players of the year Tuesday, while the Hurricanes’ Larry Coker was named coach of the year. The league’s coaches also named Temple’s Dan Klecko as defensive player of the year. Andy Lee of Pittsburgh and Nate Jones of Rutgers shared the special teams player of the year award, and Pittsburgh’s Larry Fitzgerald was named Big East rookie of the year.

Dorsey is the second Miami quarterback to earn offensive player of the year honors in consecutive seasons. Gino Torretta won the award in 1991 and 1992.

Dorsey led the Big East in passing (256.1 yards per game), total offense (254.4) and passing efficiency (148.0 rating). Dorsey is 38-1 in three years as a starter.

McGahee ranked fourth in the nation in rushing with 140.5 yards per game. The sophomore scored a school-record 27 touchdowns and had 10 100-yard games.

Klecko, a senior defensive lineman, is the first Temple player to win a major league award. He led the Big East with 10 sacks and 22.5 tackles for loss. He finished with 68 tackles, including 46 solos.

Lee led the league with 43.3 yards per punt. Jones led the conference in kickoff returns with a 28.3-yard average, including two 100-yard returns for touchdowns.

Fitzgerald, a freshman, led the Big East with 11 receiving touchdowns and finished with 64 receptions for 917 yards.

West Virginia had three first-team selections: running back Avon Cobourne, offensive tackle Lance Nimmo, and linebacker Grant Wiley. Offensive guard Ken Sandor, defensive lineman David Upchurch, linebacker James Davis and safety Angel Estrada were named to the second team.

Miami led all schools with 13 first-team selections.
