False reports

Police have charged a city man with making false reports of fires to the county emergency agency.

William A. Andrews, 18, of 211 W. Georgia Ave., faces a Jan. 22 preliminary hearing before District Justice Ronald Haggerty stemming from the three counts of false alarms to agencies of public safety filed by police.

According to investigating officer, Sgt. Vincent Traynor, Andrews telephoned 911 on three occasions and reported that a fire had taken place at an unidentified residence.

Each time, Fayette County 911 dispatched firefighters from the Connellsville Fire Department or New Haven Volunteer Hose Co. to the scene. On arrival, no fire was found.

Police said 911 later provided the department with the voice recordings of the calls that assisted in Andrews’ arrest.
