Civic Club party On Sunday afternoon, the annual Christmas party for the members of the Shannopin Civic Club and their family members was held in the hall with nearly 60 in attendance.

Mitzi Hornick, president of the club, welcomed all those in attendance as well as guests the Rev. Larry Holpp and the Rev. Terry Teluch and wife, Carla.

Rev. Holpp gave the invocation before the dinner.

Tyler Bigley wished everyone a nice holiday by playing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” on the piano.

Mildred Woatich was the winner of the door prize for the day.

A gift exchange was enjoyed among the members who wished to participate.

The Civic Club will be sponsoring a Breakfast with Santa at the hall on Saturday at 10 a.m. This will be for the children of the area.

Santa made his official visit to the party and gave gifts to the children present.

The next meeting of the club will be on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. at the hall.

All are to make note of the time for this meeting.

After the dinner pleasant conversation was enjoyed throughout the afternoon.

Barzanti bags deer

Terry J. Barzanti of Bowie, Md. bagged a 12-point buck on opening day of the season near Bobtown. Mr. Barzanti is a lucky hunter as he has bagged a deer every year for the past several years.

Council meets

The Administrative Council for the Bobtown United Methodist Church held its monthly meeting following the soup sale day at the church on Saturday.

Chairman George Gapen opened the meeting with prayer.

Several old business projects were discussed but had to be tabled until a later date due to the drainage problem at the church.

Concerning new business, the following have volunteered to be on a committee to help with the 65th anniversary celebration of the church, which is scheduled for July 20, 2003.

Arnold and Kitty Friend, Tim and Kelly Wilkins, Jennifer Franks, Margaret Vincie, Shirley Gasti, Helen Bittinger, Donna Billetz, Connie Moody, Marie Ellenberger and the Rev. Terry Teluch.

More volunteers are needed with their input along with serving on a committee to renovate the basement for this celebration. Anyone wishing to help is being asked to contact one of the above.

It was stated that the present history of the church book should be updated before July. Jackie Fletcher is the historian.

Kitty Friend thanked everyone for their help with the Angel Tree. She must have all gifts back no later than Dec. 13 for delivery.

The soup sale day was a success along with the annual cookie sale. All were thanked for their help in anyway for this project.

All newly elected officers will be installed at a morning worship service by Rev. Teluch in January.

Saturday night services are being held at 6:30 p.m. each Saturday in December and the candlelight service will be held at 11 p.m. on Dec. 24. All are welcome.

The next soup sale day and Council meeting will be held on Jan. 11 instead of Jan. 4. All are to note the change of date for this meeting.

After much discussion with projects of the church the meeting was closed with prayer.

Events for church

On Sunday morning, Dec. 15, Myra Billetz, a graduate from Waynesburg College, will be honored at the worship service of the Bobtown United Methodist Church.

Also on Sunday evening, a Family Night will be held with caroling throughout the community. All are to meet at the church at 5 p.m. for the hayride for the caroling and for those who wish to help in the kitchen for the party after the caroling.

Refreshments will be available and a $2 fun gift exchange will be for all those who wish to participate. Come out and join in the fun and fellowship.

Women to meet

On Wednesday, the monthly meeting of the United Methodist Women of the Bobtown United Methodist Church will be held in the church with president Susie Wiltrout presiding over the business. Melinda Williams will present a program for the season. A light lunch will precede the meeting at 6 p.m. All are to note the time for this meeting.

Breakfast with Santa

Breakfast with Santa will be held at the Shannopin Civic Club Hall on Saturday at 10 a.m. This will be for children of the area.
