Sam DeCara Jr.
Sam DeCara Jr., 75, of Monarch, Pa., passed away Monday, December 16, 2002 in Highlands Hospital, Connellsville, Pa. He was born July 26, 1927 in Monarch, Pa., son of Sam DeCara Sr. and Rose Stella DeCara.
Sam was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Leisenring, Pa., where he enjoyed delivering flowers and fruit to the homebound members.
He was very active in working with Open Doors for the Handicapped in Uniontown, Pa.
He was retired from Allegheny Power after holding the position as Head Houseman.
He was a Veteran of World War II who served with the United State Army.
Three sisters, Rose Ferrara, Virginia Berkley and Dorothy Walters, two brothers, Philip DeCara and Guy DeCara, and parents preceded him in death.
Sam is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Patricia Machesky DeCara; one son, Samuel A. DeCara and wife, Dawnetta, of Dickerson Run, Pa.; two daughters: Maurita L. DeCara and Kristi Anne DeCara both at home; three beloved grandsons: Tyler DeCara, Sean DeCara and Tristan Kozel; a brother, Robert DeCara and wife, Jean; and a sister, Marie DeCara Andolino.
Arrangements are under direction of the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 South First Street, West Side, Connellsville, Pa.
There will be no public visitation in the Funeral Home.
Friends will be received in St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Leisenring, on Thursday, December 19, from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.
A Memorial Mass follows with Rev. Fr. Peter Peretti as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery.
