Wharton officials OK budget
WHARTON – During a brief session held Monday, the township supervisors approved the 2003 budget and noted there will not be a tax increase in the coming year. Township Supervisor Joe Henning said that the final budget for the coming year is $1,268,472, very close to last year’s budget total.
Henning also said that the millage rate would remain at .347 mills, one of the lowest rates in the state. According to Henning, despite annual millage adjustments, the tax rate in the township has not changed in a long time.
“The rate has stayed the same for at least 25 or 27 years,” he said.
The supervisors also conducted the following business:
– Signed off on the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa reassessment appeal that is before the court on appeal. The appeal covers tax years 1999 through 2003. According to the township’s solicitor, the township is in good position to deal with the reassessment because of preventative steps taken by the supervisors.
– Asked area residents not to dump deer carcasses along township roads. Supervisor Jack Lewis said that carcass dumping along township roads is at an all-time high.
– Announced that the reorganization meeting for the township will be held Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. at the township municipal building and will be followed by the regular meeting for January.
