Holiday campaign hits $14,014

The latest contributions to the 2002 Give-A-Christmas campaign have pushed the new total to $14,014.85. “That’s wonderful,’ said Sparkle, the Christmas star. “We’re so happy to see people continue to participate as our deadline to raise $40,000 for the Salvation Army approaches. Remember that we have until noon on Monday to meet our goal and that’s not much time.’

The latest donations amounted to $2,182.28 and came from residents of Uniontown, Smithfield, Dunbar, Brownsville, Grindstone, Dickerson Run, Farmington, Mill Run, Newell, McClellandtown, Brier Hill, Connellsville, Waltersburg, Hopwood, Vanderbilt, Carmichaels, New Salem, Point Marion, Republic and Masontown.

Groups and businesses participating included the Primary Department of Christ United Methodist Church in Uniontown, Grindstone Lions Club, Fayette County School Nurses Association, Bear Run Church of the Brethren, American Legion Post 753 in New Salem, the management and employees of Sucevic, Piccolomini & Kuchar Engineering Inc. in Uniontown and students and staff of R.W. Clark Elementary School in the Laurel Highlands School District.

Sparkle also received some nice notes:

“Dear Sparkle, The third-grade classes at R.W. Clark Elementary School led the way collecting for Sparkle this year. Cans were decorated and placed in each classroom. We hope our donation of $448.28 will help make a difference for some families this year. Thanks to all the students and staff for their generosity. We extend Christmas wishes to all from R.W. Clark Elementary. Good luck in reaching your goal.’ R.W. Clark Elementary in Uniontown.

Deadline is Monday at noon.
