Mount Pleasant man indicted
A Mount Pleasant man was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on Tuesday on charges of conspiracy, trademark infringement and copyright infringement, a report from U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan’s office said. According to the report, Felix Krynicky, 30, of R.D. 4, Box 1960, Mount Pleasant, allegedly sold 845 counterfeit Microsoft Office and 97 Professional suite software packages to the U.S. Army from July 1998 through October 1998. Krynicky apparently conducted business under several business names, including WorryFree Computer, the report said. The Army returned the software to Krynicky for a refund after they determined it to be counterfeit. Krynicky then instructed his employees to sell the software by Internet auction, the report said.
According to the report, the law provides a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and/or a fine of $2.5 million.
The report also said that the actual sentence would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and that an indictment is only a charge, not evidence of guilt.
