Dr. Jerome F. Peters
Dr. Jerome F. Peters, 86, a retired Navy Captain who served as a Dentist before teaching dentistry at the University of Maryland and later at Howard University, died of congestive heart failure Friday, December 13, 2002 at the National Navy Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Peters specialized in periodontology during a Navy career that stretched from 1941 to 1964. He served aboard destroyer tenders and in China with a Marine Corps contingent. He was also assigned to the National Navy Medical Center.
He was an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland in 1964 and 1965.
He headed the Periodontology Department at Group Health Association in Washington, D.C., from 1966 to 1976 and taught at Howard University from 1976 to 1979.
Dr. Peters, a Montgomery Village resident, was a native of Masontown, Pa.
He was a graduate of West Virginia University and the Northwestern University Dental School.
He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a member of the American Academy of Periodontology.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Delrose Peters; three sons: Michael Peters of Bethesda, Maryland, Andrew Peters of Eldersburg, Maryland, and Christopher Peters of Bethesda; one brother, Stephen Peters of Uniontown, Pa.; and one grandson.
