Holiday campaign raises $35,137

Sparkle, the Christmas star, is announcing that the 2002 Give-A-Christmas campaign raised $35,137.58 for the Salvation Army. “That’s tremendous. You should be proud of yourselves for the good work that you have done to help others in your community,’ said Sparkle to contributors to this year’s campaign.

“I know we fell short of our goal of raising $40,000, but we were close,’ the Christmas star continued. “I’m so pleased with everyone who did their part to help.’

Once again, the students, teachers and parents of the Albert Gallatin School District contributed the greatest amount to the campaign: $8,939.30. The breakdown of gifts by schools is as follows: Albert Gallatin High School, $360; Albert Gallatin South Middle School, $1,200; Albert Gallatin North Middle School, $246; A.L. Wilson Elementary School, $1,428.50; George Plava Elementary School, $2,025; Smithfield Elementary School, $1,500; Masontown Elementary School, $875; Friendship Hill Elementary School, $481; and D. Ferd Swaney Elementary School, $823.10.

They also sent this letter:

“Dear Sparkle, The students, teachers and parents of the Albert Gallatin School District are pleased to present this donation to the 2002 Sparkle Campaign.

“The nine schools in the Albert Gallatin School District held a variety of fund-raising projects which were supported by students, parents, teachers and community members.

“We would like to acknowledge the generosity and effort of all those in the Albert Gallatin School District who helped to make Christmas 2002 a little brighter for Fayette County citizens.’ Albert Gallatin Education Association.

Other notable contributions included Fluor Constructors International Inc. of Masontown donated $1,000, while Mr. Robert Caldwell and the 10th grade academic world cultures classes of Uniontown Area Senior High School raised $600 and the students of Brownsville Area High School donated $257.79 to a collection by the student council. Larraine Susa’s Dance Unlimited of Uniontown donated $320 and Fayette County Domestic Relations gave $139.35. Keisterville Union Church and community donated $141. HSTV Santa, Mrs. Santa and Elf Eddie contributed $200.

Other groups and businesses that contributed included Herring Garden Center in Chalk Hill, Masontown Quilters, employees of Clar-Mac Furniture and Appliance Sales in Point Marion, Grace Chapel Presbyterian Church in Smithfield, Miss Dubell’s kindergarten class of Smithfield Elementary School, Pandacare Inc. Daycare Children of Uniontown, Paradise Lakes of Brownsville, Drs. Spinuzza, Etzle, Camele and Tirpak of Uniontown, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Howes of Brownsville, employees of Gerome Manufacturing Co. Inc., Uniontown Plants and Nelson Boskovitch Insurance Agency of Uniontown.

Altogether, the final contributors came from Uniontown, Browns-ville, Perryopolis, Chalk Hill, Smithfield, Republic, Masontown, Point Marion, Star Junction, Smock, Bobtown, Adah, Conn-ellsville, Clarksville, Hopwood, Farmington, Fairchance, Car-michaels, Hopwood, Markleysburg, Lake Lynn, Keisterville, Waltersburg, Allison and throughout the Albert Gallatin School District.

“Thank you for all your help,’ said Sparkle. “We appreciate all you did.’

Sparkle also received Christmas cards from Marge Smore and one in memory of Michael and Martha Susa and these nice notes:

A donation offering was taken at our Keisterville Union Church Christmas Program on Sunday, Dec. 22. May God bless you. We would like to extend to you the warmest of Christmas greetings.’ Lois E.
