Charles “Ted” Matthews

Charles T. “Ted” Matthews, 72, of Mount Independence, Pa., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 24, 2002 from Uniontown Hospital. He was born July 31, 1930 in Mount Independence, Pa., son of Walter Matthews Sr. and Mary Ellen Welsh Matthews.

“Ted” was the owner of Matthews Service Station.

He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, attended Calvary Assembly of God in Connellsville, Pa., and was a member of American Legion Post 51 in Uniontown, Pa.

A son, Theodore W. “Teddy” Matthews, brother, William Harry Matthews, and parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda L. Hutchinson Matthews, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 11, 2002.

Also surviving are a son, Timothy “Tim” Matthews and wife, Lori, Mount Independence; three grandchildren: Chad Matthews, Daniel Matthews, and Sarah Rose Matthews; four brothers: Dale Matthews and wife Gail, Mount Braddock, Pa., Walter Matthews Jr. and wife Shirley, Mount Independence, Emmett Matthews and wife Mary Jane, Mount Braddock, and Russell Matthews, Mount Independence; his mother-in-law, Eva Hutchinson, Mount Independence; one aunt, Rose Marie “Sis” Matthews, Uniontown; two nieces and five nephews.

Friends will be received in the BURHANS-CROUSE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Connellsville Street, Dunbar, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, December 27, until 11:30 a.m. the hour of Service with the Rev. Charles J. King and Pastor Roger Yeager officiating.

Interment will follow in Cove Run Cemetery.
