Frederick J. Reed
Frederick J. Reed, age 94 years of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Thursday, December 26, 2002 in Country Meadows, Bridgeville, Pa. He was born January 1, 1908 one of ten children of William and Sara Anderson Reed, who raised their family in Indiana, Pa.
After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 1930 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mr. Reed worked for Good Year Tire and Rubber Company in Ohio and then for Rochester and Pittsburgh Coal Company.
He later became Chief Engineer for the Coal Mining Division of Republic Steel Corporation, based in Uniontown, and worked for Republic Steel for more than 30 years.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Laurel Lodge No. 651, and other Masonic orders.
He also formerly served on the Uniontown Zoning Board.
Mr. Reed lived in Uniontown on Oakland Avenue for over 50 years.
His wife of 57 years, the former Esther M. Hawkins of Waynesburg, Pa., passed away in 1993. He has resided at Country Meadows of South Hills, Bridgeville, for the past two years.
Mr. Reed’s only surviving sibling is Margaret Reed Carter of Arizona. A sister-in-law, Eleanor Hawkins Edgar of Washington, Pa., also survives. He also leaves many nieces and nephews including Susan Leary Benamati and Sally Deabenderfer, also Richard Areford of Uniontown, Pa., Robert Areford of Washington, Pa., Wilma Jo Hawkins Haines of Venetia, Pa., Margie Hawkins Bowell of Potomac, Maryland, and Jodie Hough Martinson of Northborough, Massachusetts.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa., where Friends will be received today from Noon until 4 p.m. and on Monday, December 30, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with the Rev. James P. Fogg officiating.
Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown.
