Earl G. Sturtz
Earl G. Sturtz, a guest at Harmon House, Mount Pleasant, Pa., formerly of Scottdale and Laurelville, Mount Pleasant R. D. 5, Pa., the oldest member of Scottdale Volunteer Fire Department who joined on April 15, 1930 where he has served the offices of President, Fire Chief Captain of Company No. 1, and for 40 years the office of Secretary, the only man in fire department history to belong to two fire departments in Scottdale (Community Hose Company which was in service from 1920 to 1929 and Scottdale Volunteer Fire Department), chairman of the annual fire prevention essay contest during the 1960’s, and the driving force behind the restoration of the fire department’s 1850 40-man hand pumper, died Friday, December 27, 2002 in H. C. Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant. He is survived by a daughter, Gloria S. Sturtz Marshall of Ruffsdale, Pa.; grandson, Charles J. Marshall and his wife, Beverly, of South Point, Ohio; four great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Family and Friends will be received in the Robert B. Ferguson Funeral Home, 105 Spring Street, Scottdale, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, December 31, until the Service at 12 Noon.
