Leckrone man agrees to evaluation

By Jennifer Harr 2 min read

A 29-year-old Leckrone man agreed to consent to a Megan’s Law evaluation to determine if he is a sexual predator on Monday in Fayette County Court. Howard Anthony Shroyer indicated through Public Defender Jeffrey Whiteko that he would have the evaluation and accept a plea to two and a half to five years in prison for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

If the evaluation determines Shroyer to be a predator, then he can be sentenced to a lifetime of community notification once he is released from prison. He can also be sentenced to a lifetime of counseling.

State police charged Shroyer, of 202 Fazenbaker Road, after the alleged victim came forward in November 2001 and accused him of sexual contact at various times between June and October 2001.

In one instance, police allege Shroyer assaulted the girl while fishing in Georges Township.

The other alleged assaults occurred at a Grindstone home, said police.

The teen told police that she had consensual sex with Shroyer about seven times over a three-month period.

However, even if the sex was consensual, it is still considered illegal because of the teen’s age.

Shroyer was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, eight counts of statutory sexual assault and nine counts of corruption of minors.

Police said Shroyer admitted to the sexual contact when questioned.

He reported told police that he started having sex with the teen, but stopped when he realized it was wrong.

Shroyer also told police he had sex with the teen about three times after that.

Shroyer’s plea is scheduled for today before Judge Ralph C. Warman.
