Willard Emery “Mack” McClain, 86, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away on Monday, July 1, 2002 in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born September 14, 1915, in Albright, West Virginia, son of the late David O. and E. Pearl Slagle McClain.

He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Thelma Hayden McClain, on July 3, 1995.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church where he served as Church Treasurer, teacher for the A.J. Allen Sunday School Class, Sunday School Treasurer, and in 2001, he was recognized as a 50 year church member.

Willard was employed by U.S. Steel Corporation Frick District and worked at numerous mines throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania as a Senior Maintenance Engineer. He later served as plant manager at Galis Manufacturing Company in Morgantown, W.Va. prior to becoming an Associate Professor of Mining Engineering Technology at Penn State University Fayette Campus where he also was the Student Advisor for the Mining Department and Faculty Advisor for the Mining Society. As coordinator of the Campus Mining Program, he was awarded the Pennsylvania State University Silver Jubilee Citation for program planning, student involvement and industry interaction, before he retired in 1986. He was a 50 year plus member of the following lodges: King Solomon Lodge 346 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite – Valley of Uniontown, Council Chapter of Consistory – Valley of Pittsburgh, Syria Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Pittsburgh and Tall Cedars of Lebanon – Fayco Forrest 152.

He is survived by four children Elaine A. Frantz and husband Ted of Uniontown, Richard H. McClain and wife Barbara of Newark, Ohio, Larry D. McClain and wife Judy of Hoover, Alabama and Thomas W. McClain and wife Susan of Danville, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Aaron Todd McClain and wife Beth of North Canton, Ohio, Dr. Jeffrey R. McClain and wife Carrie of Warren, Ohio, Bethany and Susan McClain of Auburn, Alabana and Erin, Ben and Katie McClain of Danville, Kentucky; four great grandchildren, Samantha and Sean McClain of North Canton, Ohio and Shannon and Kyle McClain of Warren, Ohio.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa., where friends will be received today from the Calvary United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas D. Whitehead officiating.

Interment will follow in the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
