Communities to receive state grants

By Christine Haines 1 min read

A number of area communities are receiving state grants to improve water and sewer systems. Sewage Facilities Planning grants are being given to West Brownsville Borough, Redstone Township and the Yough Sanitary Authority, according to state Rep. Peter Daley, D-California.

West Brownsville will be getting $4,935 from the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to reimburse 50 percent of the cost of preparing the borough’s official sewage plan and to make revisions to plans for sewerage systems.

Redstone Township is receiving $10,641 toward the cost of its sewage plan, required by the DEP.

The Yough Sanitary Authority in Fayette County is getting $9,845 for the same purpose.

Menallen, Redstone and Washington townships will also be receiving grants through the DEP’s Projects to Assure Safe Drinking Water program, Daley said.

“Although only $20,000 each, these grants will help the local municipalities keep costs down for their residents,” Daley said.

Menallen will use its funds to install a wastewater collection system to server 163 households in the Jennings Run area.

Redstone’s grant will be used to extend and replace the water line to Tippiecanoe Road.

Washington Township will use its grant to replace a waterline at Delmont and Second streets in the Lynnwood Area.
