Firefighters injured in blaze
WHARTON TWP. – At least two firefighters sustained minor injuries Wednesday as they battled a structure fire along the Canaan Church Road, township Police Chief Dave Sisler said. Farmington Volunteer Fire Department was first to respond to the 11:30 fire at the home of Twila Brant and William Little.
No one was in the house at the time of the blaze, and it took firefighters about a half-hour to get the fire under control, Sisler stated.
Firefighters remained on the scene for more than two hours, and the house was nearly destroyed.
“The house sustained severe damage as well as the contents,” said Sisler.
During the blaze, at least two firefighters were injured, according to Sisler.
One firefighter received a small burn to his hand, and Farmington firefighter Steve Herring received minor steam burns, but refused treatment, Sisler said.
Sisler is investigating the blaze.
“The cause and origin is undetermined at this point,” he said.
Seven fire departments responded to the fire: Farmington, Hopwood, Ohiopyle, Markleysburg, Addison, North Union Township and Uniontown.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
