Julia Novasky Downs

Julia Novasky Downs, 82, of Beltsville, Maryland, and formerly of Masontown, Pa., died Wednesday, July 3, 2002. Born in Masontown, Fayette County, Pa., on Saturday, January 17, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Novasky.

She was a retired bookkeeper from Hudson Supply & Equipment Co., Riverdale, Maryland.

Julia was the wife of Raymond “Dick” Downs and was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Maryland.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters: Joan Hunter and Linda Downs, both of Beltsville, Maryland; grandson, Richard, and granddaughter, Angela, both of Atlanta, Georgia; brother, Frank Novasky, Masontown, Pa.; sister, Elizabeth Joyner of Hyattsville, Maryland; many nieces and nephews; and one great-grandchild.

Julia was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary M. Lacona, Ann Stillwell, Margaret Patterson, Helen Alexander and Ethel Blashinsky, brothers John, Charles, Michael and Joseph, and parents.

A Memorial Mass will be said on Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m. in All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Masontown, Pa., with Rev. Fr. James F. Bump as Celebrant.

Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery, Masontown, Pa.

The family requests that donations be sent to Children’s Hospital, Michigan Avenue N.E., Washington, D.C.

Arrangements are being handled by the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, Masontown, Pa.
