Melvin H. Uphold
Melvin H. Uphold, 73, of Point Marion, Pa., died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at his home. Born in Terra Alta, West Virginia, on October 22, 1928, he was a son of Robert Uphold and Olive Zierer Uphold.
He was a 1947 graduate of the former Point Marion High School, and retired from West Penn Power where he was in Maintenance at the Lake Lynn Hydroelectric Dam.
He had formerly worked at Houze Glass in Point Marion and also for Hillman Coal Company in Dilliner, Pa.
Melvin was very active in many community affairs, including currently serving on Point Marion Borough Council, Council Liaison for the Community Park where he spent many hours in maintaining the grounds, and current President of The Friends of the Old Cemetery Trustee Board.
He was formerly a member of the I.O.O.F 1173 in Point Marion, Trustee of Point Marion United Methodist Church, and involved with the Boy Scouts.
He was currently attending Gans United Methodist Church and enjoyed taking care of the family farm.
He was predeceased by a brother, Albert Uphold, in January 2002 and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Jo Emmenegger Uphold, whom he married June 3, 1950; three children: Mark Uphold of Mather, Pa., Matthew Uphold of Point Marion R.D., and Marcia Romine of Point Marion; five grandchildren: Zachary, Sarah, Bethany and Mark Uphold, and Brent Romine; and an aunt, Thelma Clarke of Point Marion.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, 501 Morgantown Street, Point Marion, Pa., today from 6 to 9 p.m.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date in the Point Marion Cemetery with his Pastor, the Rev. Sheryn Robinson, officiating.
