JEWEL CITY CHURCH, Shinnston, W.Va., will host its second annual biker Sunday on Sunday. Raindate is July 28. The day begins with a 10:30 a.m. service. There will be eight bikes on stage and the message will be geared to the event. After the service, there will be a free dinner on the grounds that will include a pig roast and chicken roast. The gospel group Search will minister in song during the meal. At 2 p.m., there will be a bike ride that begins at the church and goes to Cool Springs, Rowlesburg, Kingwood, Morgantown and back to the church. NEW BEGINNINGS COVENANT CHURCH, 171 Connellsville St., Uniontown, worships Sunday at 10 a.m. with a mix of contemporary and gospel praise and worship, led by the praise band. Special music will be brought by music minister Adam Lawson. During the 6 p.m. worship, the church holds Covenant Kids, which is a special time for children under 12. Pleasant View’s annual church picnic will be held Sunday in the pavilion following worship. The picnic is a potluck affair. The church supplies drinks, hot dogs and chicken on the grill. Participants are invited to bring a dish to share as well as their own table settings and a chair if they wish. The Stewart Family band will provide entertainment following lunch. Every Sunday this summer, children and youths will learn in a different way in Sunday school, using WoRM (Workshop Rotation Model). This is a way of teaching and learning using art, drama, music, computers, videos, puzzles and games. This Sunday finishes a seven-week study of Holy Communion in the kitchen cooking. Beginning Sunday, July 21, and continuing through Sunday, Aug. 25, participants will learn in unusual ways about baptism. This is for preschoolers through high school every Sunday through the end of August form 9 to 9:45 a.m.
ROSCOE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 300 Main St., announces retired Pennsylvania State Trooper Richard Kara will lead worship on Sunday. The morning begins with a continental breakfast served in the manse at 9:15 a.m., hosted by Cheryl and Gary Lewis. The congregation gathers in the sanctuary for casual summer worship at 9:45 a.m. that begins with a time of greeting and singing. Soloists will be Kirsten Sears of California and her vocal teacher Rita Young of Richeyville. Sears is a student at California Area High School and a member of the cast this summer of “Jesus Christ Superstar’ being presented by CalRep Productions at California University.
Young, who has been a previous soloist at the church, is director of the chancel choir at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in California. She is director of the Canon Mac Junior High School Chorus and a teacher of general music. Young also is a well-known soloist throughout the area and a private teacher of vocal and piano students.
Kara is serving as Washington County Drug and Narcotic Task Force Supervisor. He is a former marathon runner and enjoys leisure carpentry. He is an elder and currently serving on the Sessions of First Presbyterian Church in California where he also sings in the chancel choir. “Soul Food – God’s Love’ is Kara’s sermon title.
The loose offering this morning will go to the mission work of the deacons.
ST. GEORGE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN CARMICHAELS will celebrate the Feast of St. Peter and Paul today with a Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. Orthodox Christians have prepared for this celebration by observing a fast since July 1.

MOUNT PLEASANT MINISTERIUM will host a 9-11 Candlelight Memorial Service at Veterans Park gazebo on South Diamond Street at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The Mount Pleasant High School Tower of Power marching band will participate. Emergency response personnel and armed services will be recognized. Lives lost as a result of Sept. 11 will be remembered. There will be candle lighting, prayer and a public Pledge of Allegiance as well as community ensemble of various congregations to lead in the public singing of the “The Star Spangled Banner’ and “God Bless America.’
TOURS TO SHRINES IN EUROPE PLANNED: Fall and winter trips are planned for European destinations. Sept. 17-27 will be a tour to the Grotto of Lourdes, France, and in Paris visits to Notre Dame, Miraculous Medal shrine, tombs of St. Therese and St. Bernadette. October 13-22, a group will visit Romantic Germany, including Munich, Bavaria, Salzburg, Vienna Austria. The tour to Italy on Nov. 10-19 will include Rome (attending a Papal audience), Naples, Capri, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. A tour of Italy is planned Nov. 10-19 and includes Rome, Vatican City, Montecassino, Sorrento, Capri and Amalfi Coast. The participants will attend a papal audience and visit major religious and historical sites. Dec. 1-8, a tour to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be held. Participants will also visit the Pyramids, Floating Gardens and other historical and religious sites. Space is limited for all trips.
