Stephen J. “Jack” Pellish, 78, of Connellsville, Pa., died Thursday, July 11, 2002 in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born December 6, 1923 in Gates, Pa., a son of the late Stephen and Mary Bordas Pellish.

He was raised in Leisenring and had been a long time resident of Connellsville. Prior to his retirement he worked as a custodian for the Connellsville Area School District. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army and was a member of the Slovak Club in Connellsville. He was a member of St. Rita’s Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville, Pa.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Antoinette J. Orbin Pellish in 1997, two brothers William and Michael Pellish and a sister Madelyn Kostelnik.

He is survived by a daughter Theresa Lingenfield and her husband Willie of Connellsville; a stepson Joseph Matchey of Ohio and a stepdaughter Geraldine Matchey of Oklahoma; two granddaughters Michelle McMaster and her husband Brian and Cynthia Artis and her husband David all of Connellsville; several other stepchildren; three great-grandchildren Tyler James and Macy Kate McMaster and Riley Nicole Artis; two sisters-in-law Frances Pellish of Leisenring and Helen Marie Pellish of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green Street, Connellsville, Pa., on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Blessing Service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Rita’s Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, Pa., with Rev. Frank Lesniowski as Celebrant.

A Committal Service and interment will follow in the St. Rita’s Cemetery.

Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Connellsville VFW and American Legion and Trotter American Legion Honor Guard.

A Wake Service will be held Sunday evening at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
