Ekas inducted

Denison University junior Melanie Cluss, daughter of Cynthia J. Ekas of Uniontown and Steven Cluss of Winchester, Va., has been inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honorary.

Sigma Pi Sigma is intended to promote an interest in physics and to recognize those people who show both a keen interest and aptitude for the discipline. Membership is based upon a strong overall academic performance as well as demonstrated proficiency in physics.

Cluss, a 2000 graduate of Laurel Highlands High School, is a physics major at Denison in Granville, Ohio. A departmental fellow in the physics department, Cluss is a consistent dean’s list student, recipient of the Heritage Scholarship and a member of the Honors Program and Phi Society (an academic honorary recognizing excellence in the freshman year). She also is a member of the Denison varsity indoor/outdoor track team, has served as a hostess for the admissions office and is a physics lab assistant.

Grossman graduates

Amanda Grossman, daughter of James and Mary Ann Grossman of Larchmont, N.Y., and granddaugher of Patsy and Sara Petro of Uniontown and Herma Grossman of Larchmont, N.Y., was graduated from the University of Chicago on June 8.

Grossman received her bachelor of arts degree with honors in economics and international relations. She was designated a University of Chicago Student Marshall, which is awarded to those undergraduates obtaining the highest academic and leadership achievements at the university.

Grossman was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. While at the University, she founded an a cappella ensemble, “Voices In Your Head,” and she served as the group’s musical director for four years. She is also a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

Grossman has accepted a position in Chicago with Salomon Smith Barney, the investment banking arm of Citigroup.
