July 16, 2002 Health screenings set
The Rotary Club of Morgantown and West Virginia University Hospitals have teamed up to offer multiphasic and PSA screenings to the community.
The screenings will be offered Saturday, Aug. 3, and Saturday, Aug. 10, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Suncrest United Methodist Church, former Drummond Chapel, 479 Van Voorhis Road.
The multiphasic screening will provide 15 baseline blood analyses, including lipid profile (heart), total protein (nutrition), hemo/hematcrit (anemia), glucose (diabetes) and blood urea nitrogen (kidney).
For the most accurate results, muliphasic participants should not eat, drink or smoke for 12 hours prior to the screening.
The PSA test, recommended annually for men over the age of 50, measures a substance called prostate-specific antigen made by the prostate. It is normal to find small quantities of PSA in the blood. PSA levels differ according to age and tend to rise gradually in men over age 60. PSA may become elevated due to infection or enlargement of the prostate or cancer.
The cost for the multiphasic screening is $30. The cost of the PSA is $15. Payment can be made at the time of the screenings.
