Emil J. Salansky
Emil J. “Jake” Salansky, 74, of West Leisenring, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Uniontown Hospital. He was born Aug. 2, 1927, in Uniontown, Pa., the son of the late Jacob and Mary Salansky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Frank Salansky; and two sisters, Velma Waldrop and Martha Nagle.
Jake was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre, was a coal miner for 20 years, worked at Robena Coal Mine, and was a boss for 18 years at Maple Creek Coal Mine.
He was a member of the VFW Post 8543, and the American Legion Post 51, both of Uniontown. He also played in the U.S. Steel Golf League.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret H. (Britt) Salansky; his children, Joyce Vilella and husband, James of West Leisenring, Pa., Carol Zackal and husband, James of Perryopolis, Pa., Commander Emil J. Salansky Jr., and wife, Diana of Hawaii, and Sally Krzton and husband, Michael of Uniontown; five grandchildren, James Vilella Jr., and Jamie A. Vilella, Angela Zackal and James Zackal and Samantha Krzton; a sister, Mary Hubbard of Cleveland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 North Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, today from 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and until 10 a.m., on Saturday, when a blessing service will be held, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Fr. Kenneth G. Zaccagnini officiating. Entombment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery Mausoleum, where military honors will be accorded by the North Union VFW Post 8543 and North Union American Legion Post No. 51.
