Paul A. Smarslok
Paul A. Smarslok, 81, of Lemont Furnace, Pa., died Thursday, July 18, 2002, in the St. Francis Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born on March 28, 1921, in Youngstown, Pa., a son of the late John and Agnes Smarslok.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerome B. Smarslok; and many brothers and sisters.
Paul was a marvelous husband, terrific father and proud grandfather, and enjoyed his home and family above all else.
He was a member of Saint Mary’s (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church of Uniontown, Pa., a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47, Knights of Columbus Council 1275, 4th Degree Knight of the Albert Gallatin Assembly, a 16-year member of The Good Time Couples Bowling League, and was retired from Steel Scaffolding Company, where he was a welder and machinist for over 15 years.
During World War II, he served his country with the United States Army 15th Combat Infantry 3rd Division in the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations, where he was twice wounded in Battle, receiving one Purple Heart Medal and an Oak Leaf Cluster.
Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Eleanor L. (Sostarich) Smarslok; a son, Paul D. Smarslok and his wife, Diane of North Huntingdon, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Radabaugh Smarslok of Uniontown, Pa.; three grandchildren, Daryl Smarslok, Ben Smarslok and Brianne Smarslok; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 139 West Fayette St., Uniontown, Pa., on Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Monday, July 22, 2002, until 9:30 a.m., when Prayers of Transfer will be said. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., in Saint Mary’s (Nativity) R.C. Church, with the Rev. Fr. Anthony Carbone as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa., where military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 47. 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Albert Gallatin Assembly Color Guard and members and Knights of Columbus Council 127 members will assemble on Sunday evening from 7 until 8 p.m., when a Rosary will be recited.
