Edgar H. Comet

Edgar H. Comet of Stafford, Va., formerly of California, Pa., died Sunday, July 21, 2002, in the Mary Washington Hospital, in Fredericksburg, Va. He was 82 at the time of his death. Edgar was born Sept. 27, 1919, in Monessen, Pa., the son of the late Anton and Elsa (Holmberg) Comet, who were Swedish immigrants. Edgar had four other brothers.

He married the late Phyllis Haney Comet on Sept. 28, 1940. He earned his living as a construction supervisor for the Richard Wilcox Company, and was a longstanding member of the Carpenter’s Union. Edgar served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was selected for flight training school. He was a member of the American Legion Post 377, the First Presbyterian Church of California, and was active in and supported the senior facility, Center in the Woods. California was home to Edgar and Phyllis for more than 50 years and they loved their community of friends. Edgar and Phyllis were married for 61 years until her death on July 31, 2001.

Left to cherish Edgar’s memory are his brothers, John Comet of Oil City, Pa., and Robert Comet of Suffolk, Va.; his son, Gary Comet and wife, Aska of Stafford, Va.; and a daughter, JoAnna Comet of Reston, Va.

Friends will be received in the MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth St., California, Pa., on Wednesday, July 24, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held, in the funeral home, on Thursday, July 25, 2002, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Norman C. Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Fourth Street, California, Pa., or the Center in the Woods, Box 546, California, PA 15419.
