Kennywood Picnic slated for August 1
BROWNSVILLE – Borough residents will once again trek north Thursday, Aug. 1, for the 89th annual Brownsville Community Picnic at Kennywood Park. The annual affair is sponsored by the Brownsville South Side, North Side and West Side volunteer fire departments, as well the Newell Volunteer Fire Department.
T.L. Wardman serves as general chairman and Tim Shimko is the secretary. Both men are members of Brownsville (North Side) Fire Company 1.
Those who purchase tickets locally will help the local fire departments and will receive a discount on the purchase price. Ride-all-day tickets will sell for $18, and general admission tickets will cost $6.
Tickets will go on sale at the local fire halls beginning Friday, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets will then be sold from July 27 through July 31 at the Republic Fire Hall from 6 to 9 p.m.
Tickets also will be sold on Kennywood day from 8 to 10 a.m. at the North Side Fire Hall only.
Members of the committee include the following:
– Brownsville (North Side): T.L. Wardman, Tim Shimko, D.C. Sealy, Jack Lawver, Robert Rohland, Homer Yeardie, Chris Cook, R.J. Sealy and Don Angelo.
– South Side: Art McClelland, Marty Redigan, Ed Nicholson, Tuck Rohrer, Chuck Clayton, Robert Pritts and George Harvey.
– West Side: Gary Bennett, Ernie Crawford, Don Rhodes, John King, Todd King, Les King and Randy Rhodes.
– Newell: Joe Dandrea, Carl Lama Sr., Carl Lama Jr., Ed Harger and Joe Dandrea Jr.
The Kennywood Trolley will be in town Friday and on Wednesday, July 31, advertising the upcoming picnic.
Kennywood Park was founded in 1898 as a small trolley park in West Mifflin and has continued its operation and growth with many changes over the past 104 years.
