Ralph Edward Shipley, 84, of Uledi, Pa., died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at his residence. He was born February 11, 1918, in Hopwood Crossing, Fayette County, Pa.

Mr. Shipley was a retired Coal Miner who worked for United States Steel Corporation’s Buckeye Mine and was later employed as a Custodian at Laurel Highlands Junior High School.

He attended Revere Free Methodist Church for over 36 years, was a member of Uniontown Senior Citizens Center, and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Irwin and Lillian “Lilly” Glover Shipley, a son, Edward Earl Shipley, and six siblings.

Surviving are his wife, Violet Ann Griffith Shipley; six children: Donald Richard Shipley of Harrisburg, Pa., Judy Earnhart and her husband, Pat, of Heidelberg, Germany, Linda Lorraine Hughes and her husband, Jim, of Dunbar Mountain, Pa., Randy Lee Shipley and his wife, Debbie, of Uledi, Pa., Cindy Lou Donn and her husband, Gene, of Dauphin, Pa., and Larry Eugene Shipley of Carlisle, Pa.; 22 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Friends will be received in the JEROME W. SHELL FUNERAL HOME, 164 South Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, July 26, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Rev. Tom McCoy officiating.

Interment will follow in Greendale Cemetery, Masontown, Pa.
