Brownsville readies for 89th annual picnic
Tickets are on sale for the 89th annual Brownsville community picnic, which will be held Thursday at Kennywood Park in West Mifflin. The annual affair is sponsored by the South Side, North Side, West Side and Newell volunteer fire departments.
Brownsville (North Side) Fire Company No. 1 is in charge this year, with T.L. Wardman serving as general chairman and Tim Shimko as secretary.
Those who purchase tickets locally will help the local fire departments and will receive a discount on the purchase price.
Ride-all-day tickets will sell for $18, and general admission tickets will cost $6.
Tickets are on sale at South Side, North Side and West Side fire halls from 1 to 9 p.m. through Wednesday.
The Newell Fire Department will sell tickets Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at their fire hall. Tickets also will be sold Thursday from 8 to 9 a.m.
Tickets can be purchased in Republic at the fire hall from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
The North Side Fire Hall will sell tickets on picnic day from 8 to 10 a.m.
Shows featured this year include the following:
– Garden Stage: Rewired for Sound is a show that picks up where it left off in 2001 with more music making an impact on today’s charts, songs from Britney, J.Lo, N’Sync and more, as well as new names like Dream, Sugar Ray and Pink.
– Dream Street: A musical journey through the minds of eight youths who showcase their dreams and aspirations such as money, power and fame right on the stage.
– Kennyville Stage: Dave Travlin Davlin’s All-American Basketball Show, an amazing show featuring basketball wizardry and comedy stunts, with help from the audience.
The Kennywood Band will travel throughout the park with lots of swing and classic standards to the new sound of swing.
Twice daily, the band will perform a percussion set in the “stomp” style.
“Hanging out’ in Kennywood will be Garfield and his doggy pal, Odie. “Garfield’s Pounce Bounce’ is the new ride in Kiddieland this year.
