U.S. women take step towards 5th softball title in a row

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan (AP) – Jennie Finch threw a one-hitter as the United States beat Canada 4-0 on Sunday to improve to 3-0 in round-robin plat in the Women’s World Softball Championship. Finch had 11 strikeouts and walked one for the United States, seeking its fifth straight title.

Laura Berg doubled in a run in the second, Leah O’Brien-Amico homered leading off the third, and the United States added two unearned runs in the sixth.

The United States has won 58 consecutive round-robin games, last losing to the Philippines in 1970, and is 89-9 overall in tournament history.
