Brownsville meeting canceled

By J.S. Augustine For The 1 min read

HILLER – With only two school board members present, a special meeting of the Brownsville Area School School Board scheduled for Tuesday was canceled. At least five members need to be present for the board to take any action.

Board members were to consider a motion to authorize superintendent Dr. Gerry Grant to file paperwork allowing for the lease and set up of four portable classrooms at the district;s middle school/high school.

A consultant for the district, John Joseph, said the installation of the portable classrooms should not exceed $4,000.

Board members previously have stated that overcrowding due to the closing of Redstone Middle School is the main reason for the renovation project at the middle school/high school.

Architect Michael Molnar informed the board at last month’s regularly scheduled meeting that he would make recommendations for the renovation project.

According to Joseph, Molnar was also prepared to discuss the status of his feasibility study. Molnar had previously informed the board that the study would be complete by an Aug. 30 deadline.

Board members present at the meeting were Stella Broadwater and Dr. Melvin Sally.

Sally indicated that the meeting could be rescheduled for early next week.
