Mildred Greenlee Cochrane
Mildred Greenlee Cochrane, age 99, of Upper St. Clair, Pa., and formerly of Washington, Pa., and Monongahela, Pa., died unexpectedly Friday, May 31, 2002, at 1:15 a.m. in Friendship Village. She was born October 22, 1902, in Bentleyville, Pa., a daughter of William Greenlee and Elsie Crouch Greenlee.
In 1919 Mildred graduated from the former Bentleyville High School and then attended California Normal School (now California University of Pennsylvania) and graduated in 1921. She then began her teaching career that year in the Bentleyville schools and continued her education during the summers.
Her studies took her to New York University, Penn State University, and The Chautauqua Institute.
She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
She taught English and Mathematics in the junior and senior high schools in both Brownsville and Monongahela.
She retired as Librarian of the former Byers Memorial Library in Monongahela.
On July 28, 1938, she married William S. Cochrane.
She was a co-owner with her husband of the former Boston Gas and Coal Company of Boston, Pa.
Mr. Cochrane died July 31, 1982.
Mrs. Cochrane was a former member of United Methodist Church in Monongahela where she taught Sunday School and a former member of the Bentleyville United Methodist Church and the Elizabeth Class of the Church which celebrated its 70th anniversary on May 28, 2002, with a dinner at the church. Mrs. Cochran attended the dinner and was honored as a past President and only living Charter Member.
She was also a member of the Monongahela Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are five nephews and one niece. They are: Richard M. Ames, Dawson, Pa., Charles B. Ames, San Diego, California, Robert C. McCormick, Hilton Head, South Carolina, Gordon B. Greenlee, Fredericktown, Pa., Barrett G. Greenlee, Scenery Hill, Pa., and Mary Jane Sertik, McMurray, Pa.
Deceased in addition to her husband are a brother, John B. Greenlee, who died May 23, 1967, a sister, Margaret G. Ames, who died April 22, 1976, a niece, Mary McCormick McAlpine Self, who died May 26, 2001.
Friends will be received in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, Pa., today from Noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where Services will be held on Monday, June 3, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Edd Myers, Pastor of Centerville United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Monongahela Cemetery.
