Motorist dies in Route 43 crash

CALIFORNIA – An unidentified motorist was killed in a one-car accident Wednesday night on the outskirts of the borough. No identification of the victim was available at the scene of the accident, which also left two others injured, according to state police investigators.

The Washington County 911 dispatch center received the call at 7:47 p.m.

Police said the car was northbound on Route 43 (the Mon/Fayette Expressway) when it left the roadway and went into the grassy area between the highway and California’s Third Street.

Police said all three people were ejected from the car, which had left the roadway just past the exit to the borough.

Police said the two injured were taken to Brownsville General Hospital for treatment. No identification or information on their injuries was immediately available.

California Volunteer Fire Department remained on the scene after 10 p.m. Fire trucks had blocked the entrance to Route 43 northbound at Third Street.

California, West Brownsville and Centerville police assisted state police.

Washington County 911 also dispatched Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department, Brownsville Ambulance Service, Community Ambulance Service out of Roscoe and Ambulance and Chair out of Beallsville.
