Alfred P. Santella
Alfred P. “Nic” Santella, 80, of Gates, Pa., died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born Oct. 4, 1921, in the Province of Ateleta, Italy, a son of Leonardo and Annina (Pitassi) Santella.
His parents and a sister, Nola Santella Williams preceded him in death.
“Nic” was a member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church, and helped to build the Chapel upon St. Agnes Cemetery. He was a graduate of German Township High School, Class of 1940, and served his country during World War II, with the U.S. Army in the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations.
He was a certified Mason by trade, and was a member of the International Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Union No. 9. He also enjoyed wood crafting, creating pieces of exceptional beauty and artistry. Above all else, his warm nature, sense of humor, and devotion as a husband, father and proud grandfather was his legacy left to be remembered and cherished.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Gloria Jean (Walters) Santella; a son, Adrian “Buzz” Santella and wife, Marie of Carmichaels, Pa.; a grandson, Tristan Leonard Santella; a brother, Gildo M. “Chick” Santella of Masontown, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 515 North Main St., Masontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, June 8, 2002, until 9:30 a.m., when Prayers of Transfer will be said. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m., in All Saints R.C. Church, with the Rev. Fr. James F. Bump as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Leckrone, Pa., where military honors will be accorded by Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584, and Fort Mason American Legion Post 423 Chaplain and Commander.
