Joseph M. Soom Sr.
Joseph M. Soom Sr., 80, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away on Friday, June 7, 2002, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born on February 11, 1922, in Edenborn, Pa., a son of the late Marco and Angela Marie (La Monica) Soom.
In addition to his parents, a son, Mark A. Soom, sisters, Carrie Rudar, Mary Easter, and Grace Wensing, and brothers, Pete, Sam, William, and Mickie Soom preceded him in death.
Joseph was a member of Bible Baptist Church and had served his country during WWII in the US Army. From 1940 until 1955 he owned and operated Main Street Roofing and Heating Co. of Uniontown, and the Carmichaels Roofing and Heating Co. In 1976 he retired from US Steel Corp., Homestead Works, where he was employed as a Crane Operator.
He is remembered by his loving family and friends for his kind nature, generosity, and his devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren whom he dearly cherished. Although his life by nature may seem short, the memory of his goodness and a life well spent is eternal.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-four years, Agnes C. Jupina, united in marriage on June 29, 1947, in St. Albert’s Roman Catholic Church, Palmer, Pa.; three children: Joella Black and her husband Robert Sr., of Greensburg, Pa., Timothy Soom and his wife Sally of Uniontown, Pa., and Joseph M. Soom Jr. and wife Barbara of Uniontown, Pa.; eleven grandchildren: Robert Black Jr., Tara Keller, Shawn Black, Timothy Soom Jr., Mark Seiler, Tony Soom, Jessica Soom, Joshua Soom, Christopher Black, Jodi Marie Soom, and Joseph M. Soom III; three step-grandchildren: Michael Susa, Thomas Little, and Anthony Little; five great-grandchildren: Sierra “Sweetie-Sweetie” Showman, Rachael Keller, Raymond Seiler, and Sierra Seiler; a sister, Nellie Jupina of Uniontown, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 139 West Fayette St., Uniontown, Pa., this evening from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday, June 11, until 1 p.m., the hour of the Service to be held at the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Herring officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
