Uniontown splits doubleheader Uniontown took a break from Fayette American Legion Baseball League action Saturday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader at Keyser (W.Va.).
The visitors had only four hits in the first game, but three of them were for extra bases in Uniontown’s 3-0 victory. After scoring a run on a fielder’s choice in the top of the first inning, Brennan Dayton’s double drove home two runs in the sixth.
Santino Sloboda smacked two triples for the victors. Josh Guittap (1-0) struck out two and walked two, allowing only David Hahn’s two-out single in the first inning.
There wasn’t much offense in the second game, a 4-2 victory for Keyser. Uniontown scored a run in the top of the first, but the home team countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Keyser added two more in the second and Uniontown scored another run in the top of the third inning.
Uniontown picked up a forfeit victory over California Friday night in league action.
Connellsville 10, Masontown 3 – Connellsville picked up its third consecutive Fayette American Legion Baseball League victory Friday night with a strong effort over visiting Masontown.
Connellsville (6-4) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Masontown responded with three runs in the top of the inning.
Connellsville rallied for the lead with five runs in the second inning, never looking back behind the strong pitching effort of Andy Beucher. Beucher went the distance, striking out 10, walking three and allowing six hits in nine innings.
Losing pitcher Josh Null drove home two runs with a double while the third Masontown tally coming on a Connellsville error. Josh Franks went 2-for-3 for Masontown.
Tony Marciante smacked a two-run home run for Connellsville to go with a triple and three runs scored. Justin Marsinko went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. Philip Gratchic had a double and single, scoring two runs and knocking another home.
