Uniontown council approves storm water management rules
Uniontown city council approved an ordinance amendment Monday requiring approval of storm water management plans before final approval of subdivisions or any land development plan before any earth is disturbed. No application for development will be approved unless it includes a storm water management plan detailing how runoff from the development will be controlled, according to the amendment, which was unanimously approved at a special meeting.
A licensed professional engineer must sign storm water management plans and verify that the design meets requirements outlined in design publications.
Exemptions include land disturbances affected less than 5,000 square feet, land disturbances associated with existing one and two family dwellings, new one-family dwellings, home gardens, agriculture operated in accordance with plans prepared by the Conservation District and forest management operations that follow the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) practices.
City solicitor Daniel Webster said the DEP required the city to adopt the amendment to receive funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority to separate its sanitary and storm water lines.
