3 min read

The 46th annual Uniontown Hospital Ball entitled “The Centennial Ball” will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, in the ballroom of the Summit Inn. In addition to being a gala social event, this year’s ball will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Uniontown Hospital Auxiliary.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with complimentary hors d’oeuvres. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m.

The musical entertainment for the evening will be provided by “Starfire” and will include a variety of musical interests.

The public is invited to attend “The Centennial Ball” Tickets for the charitable event are $180 per couple and $90 per person.

The proceeds from this year’s ball will be used to purchase a Giraffe Omnibed for the hospital’s Family Beginnings Birthing Center. The Omnibed is a full-featured incubator and warmer in one compact mobile environment.

The user friendly Omnibed will provide medical professionals instant and uncompromised access to perform necessary procedures and will reduce patient stress by eliminating bed to bed moves for critically ill infants. The advanced care station is designed to provide appropriate patient stimulation in a temperature-controlled environment.

“The Giraffe neonatal unit was designed from insight gained by speaking to the clinicians who use it,” said Lea Walls, director of the Family Beginnings Birthing Center.

“When a baby is born and needs intensive care, this equipment will prevent the baby from being moved to a scale, to an incubator, to an X-ray table, etc…. This unit allows all services to be provided without excessive handling and exposure to cold air and will further enhance the successful outcomes of our obstetrical services.”

The proceeds from last year’s Ball were used to purchase a state-of-the-art Spacelab monitor for the Uniontown Hospital Surgical Suite.

“This anesthesia system is a tool that further improves our capability to monitor surgical patients,” said John F. Kraus, M.D., director of the anesthesia department. “A simple glance at one screen provides us with a real time view of all necessary patient information, such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen level, etc. The convenient display of condensed information eliminates the need to search for information, allowing us more time to physically keep a closer eye on the patient.”

This year’s annual hospital ball will mark the 100th anniversary of the auxiliary.

“We deeply appreciate those who support the Uniontown Hospital through attending the annual event,” said Paul Bacharach, the hospital’s president and chief executive officer.

“We also appreciate the auxiliary and thank them for all the hard work that the organization performs to make the event a success year and year,” he added. “It will be a great pleasure to honor the 100th anniversary of this dedication organization.”

Sally Spegar is the 2002 “Centennial Ball” chairperson. Dianne Spittler is the co-chair for the event.
