Wanda E. Garcher
Wanda E. Garcher, 75, of West Toledo, Ohio, passed away suddenly Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in Flower Hospital. She was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Fairchance, Pa., to Arthur and Ellen (Hawkins) Sutton.
Wanda was an executive secretary for the War Department of the Pentagon during 1944-1946. She worked for the former Electric Autolite Company, during 1946-1963 as a supervisor of the stenographic pool and secretary to the comptroller and the assistant treasurer.
Wanda and Tom were married Aug. 28, 1954. Wanda was a full-time mother to our daughter Elaine for 18 years before joining the law firm of Coburn, Smith, Rohrbacher and Gibson as a receptionist. She was an active member of the Fort Industry Chapter No. 391, Order of the Eastern Star, a 40-year member of Dendarah Court No. 10, Ladies Oriental Shrine, a charter member of P’Takist, a member of the Dendarah Chorus and the Order of Amaranth No. 54.
Wanda was preceded in death by her daughter, Elaine Garcher Bridgman and is survived by her loving husband, Thomas; mother, Ellen J. Sutton of Burk, Va.; sister, Myrna J. (George) Benckert; and nephew. Arthur (Cathy) Benckert of Woodbridge, Va.
Friends may call Tuesday, June 18, 2002, after 6 p.m., at the BOYER-VANWORMER-SCOTT FUNERAL HOMES INC., 5055 Secor Rd. (north of Laskey), where memorial services will be conducted by Fort Industry Chapter No. 391 at 7 p.m., followed by Dendarah Court services at 7 p.m. Entombment will be private. Tributes in Wanda’s memory may be directed to The Toledo Humane Society, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
