Oliver “Bud” McManis

Oliver “Bud” McManis, age 78, of Greensboro R. D. 1, Pa., died at 10:10 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2002, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia. He was born September 19, 1923, in Leckrone, Pa., son of Fred McManis Sr. and Josephine Marie Owens McManis.

Mr. McManis was a 1942 graduate of West Alexander High School, West Alexander, Pa., and resided in the Greensboro area most of his life.

After high school, Mr. McManis worked at Duquesne Light Company’s Warwick Mine before serving with the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. After the War, he returned to work at the Warwick Mine. He retired from the mine in 1987 after 43 years of service.

From 1960 until 1984 Mr. McManis and his wife, Rose, owned and operated the Carmichaels Bowling Arena.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Greensboro, Duquesne Light Local of the United Mine Workers of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6303 in Greensboro, and American Legion Post 423, Masontown, Pa.

His wife, Rose Fiala McManis, whom he married on September 19, 1947, survives.

Also surviving are a son, Reed McManis and his wife, Bernie, of Savannah, Georgia; a granddaughter, Wendi Thompson and her husband, Lt. Patrick Thompson; a great granddaughter, Olivia Rose Thompson; a brother, Eugene McManis of Uniontown, Pa.; a sister, Joyce Thompson of Byesville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Fred McManis Jr., and parents preceded him in death.

Friends will be received at the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Route 88, Carmichaels, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Blessing Service will be held Wednesday, June 19, at 10:15 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Worship Site of St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish, Greensboro, with Rev. Fr. Lawrence V. Holpp as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park where Military Honors will be accorded by V. F. W. Post 6303 and Cumberland American Legion Post 400.

A Vigil Service will be held in the Funeral Home today at 8:30 p.m.
