Windows broken

City police said the owners of five cars reported broken windows on their vehicles Monday morning. Damages were reported by Charlotte Opachko of Easy Street, Howard Baker of Easy Street, Jeffrey Thomas of Wood Street and a car owned by the state auditor general’s office that was parked on Wood Street.

Raccoon attack

Lolita Sharp of McClellandtown Road told city police that a raccoon attacked and injured her cat at her home just before noon Monday. Police said the feline had wounds on the back and neck, but officers were not able to find the raccoon.

Furniture fire

City police the fire department extinguished a couch and mattress that were set on fire in the alley between the post office and Gallatin Avenue at midnight Sunday.

City police said Violet Nokes of 156 Bailey Ave. reported Monday that somebody broke a window on her house.

Assault charged

City police arrested Abdul James, 27, of 57 Millview St. on charges of simple assault and harassment for allegedly striking Vernita Johnson of 57 Millview St. with a baseball bat Sunday afternoon. She was pregnant, police said.

James was arraigned and committed to the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $1,500 cash bond.

Store robbed

City police are looking for the man who robbed the A Plus Mini Mart using wood 2-by-4 with nails protruding from the end early Sunday.

The robber escaped with an unknown number of $5 bills, police said.

An employee described the suspect as white, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build and in his late 20s or early 30s.

He was wearing a long-sleeved white shirt, maroon or red sweat pants, a gray cap, black gloves and black transparent cloth over his face.

Door damaged

John Thomas of 72 Markle St. told city police Saturday evening that somebody damaged his front door with a brick.

Juveniles injured

State police in Waynesburg said five juveniles were injured in a Sunday night accident on Ridge Road. Three were flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital by medical helicopter and two were taken by ambulance to Greene County Memorial Hospital.

Truck wreck

State police in Belle Vernon said Sandra Yanecko, 41, of Dawson suffered moderate chest injuries when her pickup truck struck a tree along a township road Sunday at 8:49 a.m. She was flown by medical helicopter to Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.

Woman cited

Borough police cited Kathy Wylend, 22, of 83 Fort Mason Village for harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness following a 3:38 a.m. Friday incident in the village.

Truck not returned

Borough police said Robert Sobek, 27, of North Main Street loaned his 2001 Chevrolet S-10 truck to someone he knows on Saturday, but it was not returned.

Borough police cited Bobby Joe Guthrie, 21, of Masontown for defiant trespass following an incident in Fort Mason Village on June 8.

Borough police are investigating a burglary at 32 Fort Masontown Village, the residence of Shawn Warnick, 26.

Taken was a computer and related items valued at $3,300. Police recovered most of the property.

Purse stolen

State police in Belle Vernon said a purse owned by Wendy Wilson, 29, of Dawson was taken from her unlocked vehicle on Main Street Sunday morning.

Window damaged

State police in Belle Vernon said the rear window on a car owned by Donna P. Lee of Fayette City was damaged on Route 88 at 12:50 a.m. Monday.

Man cited

State police in Belle Vernon cited Arthur Shumar, 26, of Grindstone for allegedly throwing a beer bottle at the windshield of a vehicle owned by Jeffrey Buchheti, 22, of Merrittstown on East First Street in Grindstone at 2:50 a.m. Saturday.

West Brownsville

Burglary

West Brownsville police charged Brian Helmick, 25, of 811 High St., Brownsville, with burglary, loitering and prowling at night and disorderly conduct for an incident that occurred on June 2.

Police were called to the borough building at 4:26 a.m., where they said they discovered Helmick inside the building and various items damaged.

The front door of the police station had been kicked in and severely damaged, the tax collector’s office was entered and the door to the road crew’s office was kicked in.

There was also damage to equipment in the borough garage.

West Brownsville

Domestic violence

West Brownsville police charged Stephen Thomas Shontz, 35, of 601 Jackson St., West Brownsville in connection with a domestic dispute.

Shontz was charged with domestic violence simple assault, harassment and stalking, and disorderly conduct. He allegedly hit the unnamed victim on the face, grabbed her throat and choked her and threw her onto the floor.

The incident occurred Saturday at 2:57 a.m.

Shontz was arraigned before District Justice Marjorie Teagarden and placed in the Washington County Jail.

Dunbar Twp.

Vehicle accident

State police said Larry Van Wilson, 45, of Dunbar lost control of his vehicle Sunday at 12:10 a.m. along Bute Road and rolled the vehicle.

Wilson was taken to Uniontown Hospital with moderate injuries and police said the investigation into the accident is continuing.

Theft reported

Randell Rice, 35, told state police someone stole his truck from his driveway on Main Street sometime between 9 p.m. Saturday and 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

One-vehicle accident

State police said Sam Decara Jr. of Dunbar lost control of his vehicle June 3 at 11:12 a.m. along Route 119 and struck a guide rail. Police did not list if Decara was injured in the report.

Burglary

State police said someone entered Nino’s restaurant through a basement window sometime between 2 and 3:30 a.m. Sunday and caused some damage to the building.

Vehicle stolen

Stanley Philip Skiles, 57, of Smithfield told state police someone took his vehicle sometime between 1 and 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Redstone Twp.

Two-vehicle accident

State police said Richard Scandrol, 18, of Fredericksville and Joseph Augustine, 58, of Grindstone were involved in an accident Saturday at 3:40 p.m. at the intersection of routes 40 and 166. Police said Scandrol was not injured, while Augustine suffered minor injuries.

Jefferson Twp.

Teens injured

State police in Waynesburg said five teens were injured in a one-car accident Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on Ridge Road in Jefferson Township. None were wearing seatbelts, police said.

Three were flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital by medical helicopter and two were taken by ambulance to Greene County Memorial Hospital.

The driver, Mary E. Oziemblowsky, 17, of Jefferson, was listed in stable condition Monday night in Ruby. Right back seat passenger Dominic Wahula, 18, of Carmichaels was transported to Greene.

The three others – two boys and a girl from Mather – were juveniles who police did not identify.

Police said Wahula and two other back seat passengers were thrown from the car.

Police said the northbound car crested a hill in the roadway and began to spin counterclockwise as it crossed the southbound lane.

It then struck an embankment along the west berm and began rolling over.

Police believe the car rolled twice before it slid on its roof into a tree on the east berm.

The car stopped on its roof on the road 420 feet from where it began to spin, police said.

Wharton Township police chief David Sisler issued the following activity report for April and May in which officers responded to 31 incidents with a breakdown being: four suspicious persons, one suspicious activity, one suspicious vehicle, three auto accidents, five thefts, two assist other agencies, three domestics, one criminal trespass, one criminal mischief, three harassment, three dog complaints, three alarms, three abandoned vehicles, one passing a school bus, one indecent exposure, one dog struck by vehicle and one burned vehicle.
