Conciliator assigned
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) – The Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board has assigned a conciliator to help negotiate a deal for some 1,200 Westmoreland County employees who have been working since December without a contract.
The Service Employees International Union Local 585, which represents courthouse employees, road crew workers and 911 dispatchers, rejected a tentative agreement in April and were ordered to continue working without a contract.
On Friday, the labor board agreed with the union that county commissioners violated state law when they refused to continue bargaining with employees after rejecting the tentative agreement. Union officials are urging commissioners to resume negotiations.
