Jim Fogg will give the sermon “Bystander to Cross Bearer’ at Sunday’s 9 and 11 a.m. worship services. The casual 9 a.m. service will also feature hymns and praise choruses led by Rev. Fogg, accompanied by Jim Hutchinson. The traditional 11 a.m. service features special music by soloist Ron Shroyer. Paul and Kristi Horvat will be received into Asbury’s church family and their daughter, Lily, will receive the sacrament of holy baptism. BROWNFIELD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, located at the corner of Hopwood-Fairchance and Brownfield Road, announces the Brownfield United Methodist Youth Group will host the first annual Fathers Day 500 on Saturday at 11 a.m. This is a lawn tractor (riding mower) race that will be held in the parking lot of the church. The youths will sell refreshments.

BROWNSVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHARGE will celebrate Holy Communion at all Sunday’s services: 8:30 a.m. at West Bend, 10 a.m. at South Brownsville and 11 a.m. at Brownsville First. The Rev. Paul E. Wilson Sr. will speak on “He Blessed the Bread.’

Robert Ellenberger will give the sermon “Sustaining Grace,’ which is part three in a series entitled “Ministry of Grace.’ At 6 p.m., children are encouraged to participate in the new Kids on a Mission program, while teen-agers have their own contemporary Power Jam service in fellowship hall. CHRIST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Uniontown, worships at 10:45 a.m. in the sanctuary with Gert Thomas and her Kooky Kritters sharing a puppet skit, “Stinky Sneakers.’ The Rev. Ken Jones will give the meditation. The senior choir will perform, directed by Carol Atwood, organist.

Nelson served on the faculty of California University of Pennsylvania in the educational studies department and taught first and second grade at the former Noss School, located on the campus of California University. She is to be ordained into Christian ministry in July. Nelson directed the Children’s Street and Sidewalk Mission held in the Brownsville area during the 1970s. Mabel Yauger is guest soloist. JEFFERSON-RICES LANDING UNITED METHODIST CHARGE will have a farewell for its pastor the Rev. Carol Touvell and her husband, Frank, on Sunday at the Jefferson Church. The Touvells came to Jefferson in July 1992. Both churches have shown growth in membership and programs.

On Sunday, there will be a joint worship service at Jefferson at 10:30 a.m. The combined choir will sing the anthem. At noon, a dinner will be held. Meat, rolls and beverage will be provided. Those attending should bring a covered dish of their choice. There will be an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Friends are welcome to come by to express their best wishes in a book. Rev. Rouvell will begin her new appointment of three churches in Quaker City, Ohio, on July 1. The Rev. Ernie DeLuca will begin his ministry on the charge on July 1.

MARKLEYSBURG FIRE HALL will be the site for a special evening of gospel music on Monday at 6 p.m. The event will take place in the parking lot and is sponsored by local churches of the Markleysburg area and the Markleysburg/Henry Clay Volunteer Fire Co. The Marker Family of Markleysburg at 6 pwill start the evening. At 7 p.m., Cookie and Amoz Mazzant of Elwood City will come to the stage. At 8 p.m., Only By Grace from Dillsburg will round out the evening. There will be a large tent beside the fire hall with food and drinks available. The concert is free but visitors should bring their own chair. Parking is available on the grounds.

MOUNT ARARAT BAPTIST CHURCH, Cardale, announces Mount Ararat’s Youth Ministry will celebrate its annual anniversary on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Guest preacher will be the Rev. ROSCOE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 300 Main St., continues its summer worship schedule Sunday with an informal service with a continental breakfast served in the manse at 9:15 a.m. This week’s hosts are Jessie Bovan, and Donald and Mary Brumley.

The church Session meets for prayer at 9:40 a.m. and worshippers gather in the sanctuary at 9:45 a.m. to begin the service with a time of singing. ST. GEORGE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN CAR-MICHAELS announces an Akathist for the Departed and Pomen (memorial service) for all parishioners buried from St. George Church will be served at 10 a.m. Saturday. Graves in St. George Cemetery will be blessed following the service. Vespers for the eve of Pentecost will be Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The Divine Liturgy of Pentecost will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Sunday.

ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, Uniontown, announces “Mary, Mirror of Prayer,’ will be the title of a week-long parish retreat Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Parish Center at 88 Pennsylvania Ave. The theme will focus on reflection upon the mysteries in the life of Jesus – the Annunciation, the birth of Jesus, the Presentation, the Crucifixion and Pentecost as reflected in the life of his mother and how her example can be a model for the way to deeper prayer.

UNION BAPTIST CHURCH, New Salem, will honor the Rev. Mary L. Baker on her fourth pastoral anniversary on Sunday. Guest speaker for the 11 a.m. worship hour will be the Rev. Sharon Harper from Solid Rock Foundation in Hidden Valley, where she is the assistant pastor, and her husband, the Rev. Oliver Harper, is pastor. Solid Rock Foundation is an international ministry with churches in St. Vincent, Bahamas; Haiti and Africa. Rev. Harper is mother of two and grandmother of five grandsons. She is a graduate of Wilbur Force A.M.E. School, Wilbur Force, Ohio, and Greater Works Outreach School of Ministry, Monroeville.
