Greene to boost employees’ salaries

By Steve Ostrosky 2 min read

WAYNESBURG – Greene County’s full-time and part-time management employees will notice a slight bump in their paychecks next month, after the county salary board voted Thursday to give them a 2.8 percent cost-of-living salary increase. The annual increases became county policy in 1999, according to personnel director Tracy Zivkovich, who said the amount of increase is determined by taking the average of the increases given over the previous three years. She said the increases go into effect July 1.

Ninety-five county employees are affected by the board’s action, after commissioners voted to include county solicitor David Hook on the list. Based on the formula, Hook’s salary will rise about $980, from $34,999.90 to $35.979.90.

The salary board also voted to appoint James Gregan to a vacant juvenile probation officer position, at a salary of $20,000, and voted to appoint Richard Rakas as a drug and alcohol case- management specialist, at a salary of $25,152.40, effective July 1.

Before the salary board meeting, the county commissioners met to approve the 2003 assessment roll and permit the assessment office to begin mailing out final notices of value in the next week.

Chief assessor H. John Frazier presented copies of market values for the county, broken down by municipality and school district, and the revised tax rates for 2003, based on the change in assessment ratio.

The commissioners also approved an application to the state for continuing funds for the Rural Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Program, and approved a car-loan agreement with First National Bank of Pennsylvania for Children and Youth Services officials to purchase a new car for the program.

The commissioners will meet next on July 10 and 11, rather than the first week in July, because of the Independence Day holiday.
