Perry beats Brownsville, 8-3 Chris McManus smacked a two-run double to highlight a five-run eighth inning as Perryopolis had to work one extra frame to defeat host Brownsville, 8-3, in Fayette County Baseball League action Thursday.
Perryopolis trailed 1-0 before a combination of two walks, one hit batsman and two errors led to a three-run rally in the fifth.
Brownsville pushed across a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2, then tied it in the seventh on Kevin Dvorchak’s run-scoring single.
Perryopolis loaded the bases in the top of the eighth on a single by Matt Chalfant and walks to Dustin Schwab and Mike Matras. Chalfant scored what proved to be the winning run when Justin Homer reached on an error. McManus’ big hit nudged the margin up to three and Craig Kordich added a two-run single.
Schwab pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth to wrap up a complete-game performance. Schwab allowed four hits and eight walks (two intentional) with four strikeouts.
Losing pitcher Jason Campbell pitched into the eighth before being relieved by Joe Testa. Campbell gave up three hits and eight walks with eight strikeouts.
Brumley tripled and Casey Kupets doubled for Brownsville.

Carmichaels 11, Charleroi 6; Carmichaels 10, Charleroi 9 – Shane Busti and Jamie Kowalczyk had three hits apiece in both games of Carmichaels’ doubleheader sweep at Charleroi on Wednesday.
Andy Mazur pitched a complete game for Carmichaels in the opener, allowing seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Matt Fanase tripled and double, and Busti doubled twice for Carmichaels, which scored four runs in the seventh to put the game away.
Frank McLaughlin, who also had three hits in both games, tripled and singled twice of Mazur.
Derek DiPiazza was the losing pitcher. He struck out three and walked two.
Charleroi trailed in the second game, 8-6, before putting together a three-run rally in the top of the seventh to go up 9-8. McLaughlin’s two-run double capped the rally for the hosts, who played as the visiting team in the nightcap.
It didn’t take Carmichaels long to answer in the bottom of the inning, however. Kowalczyk singled and Jerod Lapkowicz ended the twinbill in dramatic fashion by drilling a game-winning two-run homer.
Justin Corso went the distance for Carmichaels with three walks and one strikeout.
Jeff Lapkowicz and Busti each doubled for Carmichaels (4-3).
McLaughlin had two doubles for Charleroi. Dave Wachinski pitched a complete game in defeat.
