Missionaries to speak in Brownsville
The Rev. Fred and Betty Howsare, Assemblies of God missionaries to the Asia Pacific region, will speak at Maranatha Assemblies of God, 126 Brownsville Ave., Brownsville, on Sunday at 11 a.m., according to the Rev. James Stemple, pastor. Asia Pacific is a field designation of the Assemblies of God Division of Foreign Missions that encompasses Southeast Asia and the Islands of the South Pacific reaching from China to Australia.
The region stretches from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean and includes the South China and Java Seas.
Included in this area are 34 countries.
The Howsares have served in Asia Pacific since 1972. They began their first missionary term in Indonesia where Howsare served as director of the national department of evangelism, headed up Good News Crusades outreaches, and directed the International Correspondence Institute program for the island of Java.
In 1986, the Howsares began a four-year ministry in neighboring Malaysia.
They pursued cross-cultural evangelism among different ethnic groups in the area.
Before working in the Far East, the Howsares enjoyed a ministry in French-speaking Quebec, Canada. Before their appointment by the Assemblies of God to full-time foreign missions, they traveled for three years as associate evangelists with the T.L. Osborn Crusade Team in mass evangelism and also served as missionary evangelists to Haiti.
The Howsares now minister throughout Asia and the South Pacific in Good News Crusades in conjunction with church planting and project ministries.
