July 4 races The Masontown Rotary is once again running its annual races for children age 12 and under at the Masontown-German Park on July 4.
The races will begin at 10 a.m. sharp and will include sack races, three-legged races, dashes, etc. and will be broken down by age groups.
Each child who participates will have a chance to win a brand new bicycle with helmet. There will be two bikes given away, one to a boy and one to a girl. You must participate in the races to have a chance on the bikes.
Cold drinks will be provided after the races. It is always a lot of fun and we look forward to another great crowd. It will be held, rain or shine.
Community picnic, concert
The Masontown Brethren Church is holding a community picnic and a Southern Gospel Concert with “The Laymen” from Colerain, N.C., on July 4.
The picnic will begin at 5:50 p.m. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. The picnic and concert will be held in the backyard of the Masontown Brethren Church.
The public is cordially invited to attend.
There is no cost for the picnic, but a freewill offering will be received for the concert.

Vacation Bible School
The Masontown Brethren Church will hold its annual Vacation Bible School, titled “Pioneers and Prairie Dogs” the week of July 8-12.
VBS will be new and different this year.
The VBS will be during the mornings from 10 to 12:30 p.m. There will be crafts, singing, stories, skits, puppets and lunch. Pre-registration will be held today at noon.
Sharing the Gospel
The First Presbyterian Church in Masontown will host “A.G. and Kate, Sharing the Gospel in Word and Song” on Sunday, June 30. The public is invited at 7 p.m. to enjoy guitar, autoharp, banjo and dulcimer music. The concert is free.
Birthday greetings
Happy birthday to Brian Geller who will be celebrating his birthday on Tuesday.
Sam Chahl will be celebrating his 10th birthday on Tuesday. Sam will be a fifth-grade student at All Saints School in Masontown and is the son of John and Kelley Chahl of Masontown. He is the grandson of Regenia Ebner of McClellandtown
Charles Bauer, son of Chuck and Colleen Bauer, celebrated his 12th birthday on June 18. He will be a seventh-grade student at Albert Gallatin North, where he is a member of the band. He has a sister, Jaclyn.
Caring seminar
The First Presbyterian Church of Masontown, with the Brownsville Hospital, will sponsor a community of caring seminar for coronary artery disease and enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP). This seminar will be on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the church located at 104 Church St. in Masontown.
Seminars being planned in the future include obesity/exercise, domestic violence, death and dying: advance directives and health care resources for the elderly.
All seminars are free of charge and open to the public.
Oldies dance
An oldies dance featuring local D.J., Music Maker, will be held at the Masontown VFW on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Members and guests are invited to enjoy oldies, country, rock and polkas.
Singspiration
An old fashion “Singspiration” will be held this evening at the Masontown Mennonite Church. Several Churches will be represented. The public is invited to this wonderful time of sharing through music at 7 p.m.
